Currently, I run:

ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe
AMD Athlon 64 FX-55
Corsair TwinX XMS Plat PC3200CP (4GB)
ASUS nVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra SLI
PC Power & Cooling 510 Express

My Idea:
The holidays will be coming in the next 4 months. Since my parents have done so much for me this year, I want to give them a gift for once.

I will sell:
2 ASUS nVidia GeForce 6800 Ultras
500w Black X-Connect
Logitech MX518

I will buy:
nVidia GeForce 7800 GTX - ?
Shuttle XPC SN25P - http://www.censuspc.com/pconf.php?productid=1988
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ - http://www.xpcgear.com/ada3000bpbox.html
Leadtek GeForce 6600 GT 128MB - http://www.xpcgear.com/px6600gttdh.html

I will give to my parents my current motherboard, 2GB of RAM, 3000+, and a 6600 GT.
I will buy for myself the 7800 GTX and the Shuttle.

What are your thoughts / comments / opinions / questions / suggestions on this plan?
Is there anything I should change? IMHO, this is a steal.

Good Idea, one of my friends has a shuttle and its very good for lan parties as they are easy to move around. Also the new graphics card will be a good substitution for the 6800's.

Thanks. I was wondering, what is the order of the best 7800 GTX's? The prices are going down a lot, and I have a lot of choices.

My personal building quirk is to match the maker of the motherboard with the maker of the video card (If possible). So that usually means I get Asus motherboard and Asus video card.

I have heard some good things about BFG and XFX (which used to be Pine).

I can get an XFX for 5. I was told by the guy I purchase the stuff from that I should not go with BFG Tech. He said that they OC them too much and can cause problems in the future. He said ASUS and XFX are the best.

If your parents aren't that computer-literate, you might be better off buying a sub-$500 computer for them. If all they need is email and web browsing, there's no need to build them a macked out computer, and buying a cheapie is, well, cheaper than building one.

Well, right now they have a XP 2800+ BARTON, which is very slow. I am mostly just upgrading them to the 64-bit community. This way it will be easier to upgrade them later.

My mom is a real estate broker, so she does stuff with A LOT of large pictures. And my dad doesn't use it for work, but he watches the "AOL Movie" stuff on the welcome page.

ill buy the current barton system from them cuz i always need more spare barts

and nice but i aggree with whoever who said about buying a cheeppie for your folks but i also aggree about prepairing them for the future but personaly think to wait another month or two for newegg or whatever place you use to start their holiday sales

um maby use a sempron 64 because of the lower price and how much DO you want for the vid cards

and shuttle is a nice brand

i personaly like eVGA as well i have yet to be disapointed by their releases same for XFX and have you looked at MSI

oh and BFG does SUK
