Is there a switch on the back of the new one? Is the fan spinning?

It could be that it's too much wattage for that MB.

I'm sure they will do it for triple the price of a new one.

Just use the 300w first; then have an individual to check it for you. This is for the safety of your PC.

Ask for its switch then know his advice regarding your PSU. For the meantime that would be the best thing that you can do.

Don`t worry, that would be fine.
