not reading hard drive

i have a dell dimension 4550. and i bought another hard drive. when i hook them up, under system->hardware, it shows it, but i cannot access it or view it in "my Computer" is there any way to make it show up?

Have you got the jumpers set correctly. Im guessing your old drive would be master so you would need to set the new one to slave. Also it may need formatting. This can be done by going to disc management which you can get selecting computer management from administrative tools and its at the bottom.

Start/my comp right click...then click manage. Or get a 3rd party prog for formatting. Prob want it in NTFS.
