I was reading some hardware reviews (i really didnt understand)
And it was talking about the 5600 and the GF4ti4200.
there was one thing i saw that cought my eye....

"Is the GeForce FX 5600 worth buying? Once again, if you have a card of the GeForce4 Ti level, it doesn't make sense to replace it with this accelerator; but if you are only choosing between the RADEON 9600, GeForce4 Ti 4200 and FX 5600, you should remember that the FX 5600 loses to the GeForce4 Ti 4200 if the anisotropy and AA are not enabled, but wins with them."

also, does the RADEON 9600 compare to the 5600?

Radeon 9600 and FX 5600 are technically the same level. My experience however, has shown that the 9600 is smoother for the games I play (I own both).

The Geforce 4 TI series of cards were a fantastic card. I still use the TI4400 card in my main computer. Even though it's a bit outdated, I don't really play any of the new games. To be quite honest, my TI4400 is my favorite graphics card that I've ever owned. If you own a TI4200, I would not recommend buying either the 9600 or the 5600 to replace it. You would be better off sticking with what you have until you can afford a Radeon X800/850 or a FX 6k series card.
