"Ok, here's the deal, i currently have a single monitor on my computer. 15pin VGA that plugs into my graphics card. On the side, i have an old 9pin monitor. My question is, is there any way to connect the 9-pin to a serial port so that i can run two monitors? I've been looking around, and haven't been able to find anything, so maybe it's not possible, but i thought i'd ask". the monitor is a samsung syncmaster 17GL. he has the monitor and everything but when he connects it the computer does not detect it. So i was looking for... some kind of 3rd party software or drive.

Sorry. While a monochome monitor has the same connector as a serial port, the interfaces are miles apart. In short, no, it won't work.

If your graphics card has a composite or svideo output, you might be able to work up an adapter that will send an appropriate signal to your mono monitor, then just extend your desktop onto it as you would a TV through the same output.
