Up the voltage a bit, up the clock speed a bit. Test for stability, heat, and performance. Repeat.

I have my Core2Duo OC'ed from 2.66Ghz to 3.2Ghz. The Core2's OC very easily, other processors vary greatly.

Usually. There are some programs you can get to do it, but I tend to think of them as less reliable.

If you're thinking of overclocking, do your research first. I don't know how well the new AMD's can OC, but I'll tell you who does: the Internet. Make sure to search around a lot and find out if/how much your particular processor can be OC'ed, then be CAREFUL when you do it. You don't want to end up with an expensive paperweight.

It won't hurt it if you do it correctly.

Fair enough

It's one of those things where if you aren't comfortable doing it, it's not something you should mess around with.

I would test it out on an older pc if it were me first to be more comfortable.

If you overheat a processor too much you can damage it permanently.

Just be careful whatever you do. Know what you're doing, about to do, and the possible consequences before you embark.
