So, forgive my ignorance and lack of effort to go looking for this info, but how does this work?

I install seti@home program which monitors when my computer is sitting idle for a while, and then if it has been idle for a while it connects to the SETI server and says "Yo SETI! I'm bored, gimme something to do!" and then SETI sends some calculations for my computer to do.

Is that about right or am I getting confused?

Just about right. It's not a constant connection. Basically, your computer gets a work unit from the SETI servers then disconnects. Your CPU does the calculations during idle times. When the work unit is complete, it sends the results back and gets a new work unit. Obviously faster processors on computers with a lot of idle time will get more done than slower processors that are being used frequently.

I ran SETI@home for a couple months, and I liked it. But now that it's warm outside, having 3 computers running in my room makes it warm enough without having one of the processors running constantly. But I'll definately join once it starts to get cold out again. :)

Calendae,

How often does the group page update? I have three computers hooked up now and have about 12 units done since yesterday. Was just curious.
