Could someone please offer me some advice. I wish to start building my own machine, but would like an oppinion on which would be the better processor between these two, one from Intel, and the other an AMD.

Pentium 4 650 Socket 775 2MB 800FSB - http://www.dabs.com/uk/channels/compone ... klinx=3M4Z

Athlon 64 3700+ Socket 939 1MB - http://www.dabs.com/uk/channels/compone ... klinx=3P77

Now, I see that the Intel has larger cache memory, but all opinions would be appreciated. Both are 64-bit processors.

Mnay many thanks :D

personaly i would go with the AMD

i LOATHE intel though so it is a biased opinion

what is the computer gonna be used for?
if gaming use an AMD unicore because of the speed

for a server get a high end intel because of the power

if you want my reasoning for my bias here goes

price to performance ratio is an AMD tilt

intel isnt a gaming processor and doesn't(to my knowladge) posess a fsb of anything above 800 MHz and overdoes the clock

and i suffered some second degree burns from an intell chip exploding on me(i think and hope it was an isolated incedent though) while it was unpluged and i was replacing the thermal compound :-(

one, i laugh at you
two, i point you to a good lawyer :P
three, spill kerosene on intel hq and accidentally light it on fire, and then i place picket signs all over the campus saying, this is what your processors do...
fourth, i escape the country :P

i was just wondering if leaving your computer on past a certain amount of time...say about 2 days plus is healthy for the computer? and also does it matter running intel for long periods versus amd. cuz i have noticed that intel has higher sales and alot of basic home computers use p4 such as dell...shouldnt they go with something that is faster and cheaper such as amd? theres gotta be something that i havent been told.

intel is a brand that illiterates know and is this more mainstream with computer idiots

another thing is intel ups the Clock speed(ie 3.0Ghz) instead of the Fsb for a reason. that reason is the not so computer literate people dont know the dif between the fsb and clock which is the clock being how fast it can process info and fsb being how fast that processed info can be used. anywho a clock of 3.0Ghz is impresive and compared to 2.0 a normal person will likley get the 3Ghz system regardless of weather the 2Ghz system is a touch faster because of the fsb

ok. Is that as clear as glass or mud???

*pssst go with mud*

Yeah I'm not too keen on Intels. Though I have an old P3 socket 1Gig and that sucker still runs beautifully.

I use intel because im poor and i didnt feel like buying a new motherboard lol

soo basically its the poor peoples processor! =)

they dont game that bad but you have to spend atmost twice as much to get a good intel gaming system than a amd gaming system

Mike, you are 1+3+3=7 no matter what :). heh. Well, GO WITH AMD. Remember - Intel Inside can't DIVIDE.

Don't even give them your money, they have not earned where they are today fairly.
