Do you have a preference betweent nVidia and ATI ?

What bus type are you using, AGP or PCI-E ?

Your best bet would probaly be a GeForce 6600 GT for between $150 and $200. If you can afford $300 you could pick up a Radeon X800 XL.

I believe the X800 and the FX6600 are the same "class" of card. 9800 pro would be roughly equivalent to the 5900. Though those are both good cards, you have the budget for something better so I'd go for it. Otherwise you'll be unable to run the games coming out in 6 months. I have a 9800 pro though... haven't been unable to run a game yet, just had to drop the resolution a bit.

GeForce 5900XT competes with the Radeon 9800 Pro. I wouldn't buy either of these cards though because they're quite old and not very good value. The Radeon 9800 Pro is the better of the two though.

GeForce 6600 GT competes with the Radeon X700 Pro. The GeForce 6600 GT is a better card than the Radeon X700 Pro.

The GeForce 6600 GT is basically the best mid-range card you can buy right now (around ~$150 USD).
