All of a sudden my laptop decided not to power on the screen and give me a series of beeps that i found to be a bad video adapter. "1 Long, 3 Short Video adapter failure means Bad video adapter or memory" - found online.

Is there anything i can do to try and fix it or is the whole mainboard trash? in which case the whole thing is trash because its not worth getting a new board.- this thing is pretty old and out of warranty.

thanks

From my limited experience with laptop hardware, video boards can usually be purchased for anywhere from $15 to $50, but you'll probably have to know someone who works on laptops professionally. If it's managing to produce beep codes, it doesn't sound like you'd need to replace the mainboard. I haven't worked with HPs at all though, so I'm not sure if theirs are the same or not.
