As a newb to the forum, I can only offer my system as a sacrifice to the gods (in other words, I just feel compelled to post here, to fit in!):

Athlon 64 3600+ (1MB L2 Cache) ~2.2Ghz (stock speed).
Gigabyte K8NF-9 (nForce 4)
1GB PC 3200
250 GB IBM/Hitachi SATA
ATi X600 256MB (PCI-Express)

OH! And my HSP 56K V.92 modem. :) Yay for being home from school without campus provided internet.

I'm pretty happy with this video card. I'm from the old days of 3dfx, their anti-aliasing with almost no performance loss was amazing; nobody's done it the same way since. But the card, now, the x600, is a very good LOW-END modern card. It's got todays specs, but it's at the back of the pack - like an entry level or "poor man's" 3D Accelerator. Which is enough for me, these days. I don't do as much gaming as I used to, though I do play my share of Need For Speed Most Wanted and Quake IV. ;)

Any typos are to blame on a slight hangover, and like the 2nd or 3rd time in my life using an ergonomic keyboard (split in the middle style).

the x600 is a very decent card, its comparable to the x1300, or x1400 mobility versions.

Anti -anlensing (sorry typo). When I bought this rig I didn't do the research I should have done incase I want to upgrade. Although I am satisfied with the rig after a little checking I should have gotten a AMD X2 versus the Pent D I bought. The comparision charts I looked at has the Pent significanlty lower than the AMD.

But from expericance this chip has been great. I was playing Battlefeild 2 the other day and when I quit I found on my desktop Nortin AV running a scan. I was ammazing after reading that you need to shut off all backgroud tasks.

There is a place to ask for help and here in the hardware forum is not the place.

Its not really a server, I just run server apps (dedicated game servers / apps I make) on it and my WAMP. I have Linux on it because Im trying to work my self over that way for what I am using it for.

The first one (Why win xp is running on the less powerfull box dont ask) is for the most part dedicated to windows XP, while the second one is dedicated to Linux. Im planning switching to some other Linux OS to test them out. Also run a server version along side one of them.

Windows Apache Mysql PHP, right? Im a 17 year old high school student so Im still just starting out learning linux. I have a hosting account with Unflux but its slower to keep having to upload files to check if something works. Ive tried running a LAMP server but for some reason I can never get the welcome screen to go away. I might try again but right now this is easyest for me. Also other server apps I run only run on a windows envierment at the moment. Its easyer to have one MySQL server than two for what I am doing. If you have a 1, 2, 3 easy step for setting up a LAMP server post a link :) I tried running one in Fadora Core 5 but that failed, as mentioned above. I havent tried it much in Ubuntu. Im waiting to learn it abit more before I install a server version.

I haven't gotten into trying LAMP yet as I am very new to Linux myself.

This looks like a good one to try but you need Ubuntu Server

http://onlyubuntu.blogspot.com/2007/05/ ... erver.html

My thing is I dislike XP home due to the slight restrictions Home has compared to Professional. I see nothing wrong with running WAMP as I am running it on an XP Pro laptop for the same reasons you are.

exactly what I was going to do, until earlier today I found out that there will be no geforce 9 series launched in 2007 since it was only a rumour although the 8800GT will be launched which will be much better than the 8800GTS
