I did a few searches and didn't see it yet, but along the lines of "post your desktop", I thought this would be fun.

Post your workspace. Take a shot of your work area if you don't already have one. In keeping with Bigwebmaster's wishes, if you post the image inline, keep it to a reasonable size. If it's larger than that, post the link. (If the file size is really large the mods will most likely change the inline picture to a link)

Anyway, here's where I work my magic. The third picture shows a small portion of my "owl" collection. I posted it elsewhere here, but I love owls and "ATNO" stands for "A True ~~~Night Owl~~~":

[Dead Link]

I also have a third computer networked in from another room which does nothing but distributed computing. My father passed away this year from complications due to Parkinson's disease. This has been a rough year for me, but I found a proggy that would allow distributed computing to "fold proteins" which would provide help for folks with Parkinson's (like my dad) and Altzheimer's and others. I'm all for that! Picture #2 - the computer on the right shows a screensaver shot of this "folding" proggy.

folding@home is the distributed computing program I use. There are many other similar ones out there. Her's the download link if anyone else has similar interest in the one I use:

My case is in shambles right now, normally the cd-rom would have a face plate like the rest of the case, but the rom is being a dork and not opening half the time. The side door would normally be closed with the lights on inside. Alas it's not :-P Sorry for the mess! and as so you guys don't think I am a total slob, I pulled off one of my amazing teenager 5 minute cleans and this is the inside of my case.

Isn't there a quote somewhere that says "messiness is next to godliness"? If not, I claim that one. I took my "posted" pics of my workspace after some serious cleaning. On most days, I'd have to kick the trash to the side to duplicate it.

Most people in here aren't electricians, but if you did take notice in my work space I have two outlets that have four electrical plugs in them so I don't over load the circuit and cause a fire. The one four plug that is powering the PC's is on it's own 12-2 wire straight into the sub panel so unless I put about 10 more PC's on that one set of outlets I won't have any problems

here is another workspace of sorts enjoy

here is a pic of a dryer I refitted to hold a PC based radio system outside and keep it dry (no pun intended) but I have had it outside for almost a year now and it's still in the same spot that I put it and the PC is still running since I have internet access right now  also some more pics of some of my other toys

[Dead Link]

here is me laging the dryer to the cement blocks I buried in the ground

[Dead Link]

here is a pic of the antenna's the one I'm working on got hit by a bird and it was a 19 or 24 dbi grid dish antenna that was made out of dicast aluminum that is the backhaul antenna amazingly it was still working about a week before anybody had bothered to tell me it was broken amazing it is shooting about 15 miles to the main site the one below it is a 19 dbi flat panel with amp to reach the 14 miles back into town enjoy gadget guru :D

[Dead Link]

also for in the office workspace I got a nice little drill press for anything that comes to mind

I am going to regret this decision, as my home office is a mess.
I have not, as yet taken any photos of my office at work -- I did have photos of the raised floor in all my geos, but alas, cannot locate those as well. :)

As with someone else in this forum, this posting has created the desire in me to "clean up" my home workplace. So, thanks to the sponsor of this thread I suppose. ;)

Cheers.

The desk (notice candle and lighter, power outages are frequent where I live, taught me to save often and have a good surge bar)

The Garbage/I might use it someday pile. The grand sleeping quarters and right rear speaker. The crap from relatives and left rear corner.

Don't be too critical b_heyer...looks very similar to some of my first frame pages. Frames are difficult to do well (and, IMHO not worth it -- but that's beside the point).

in 6 months we are hopefully moving buildings so I will probably have my own office --- oh watch out then!!!

ahahahaa i love that! yeah when I was a teenager (and up until about a year ago) I was always so messy and ikkis. but now i love a clean desk and clean house.

I think its *really* important for people to feel comfortable in their work environment especially when you are there so much of the day, there are some companies that limit the amount of things you can have on your workstation desk - photos etc. I think thats rediculous. It is all my things around me that get me through the day, they cheer me up and make me feel good to be here :D

Not sure why my camera is taking such grainy shots (low light with flash turned off perhaps), but at least you see some detail.

The plastic grilled thing to the very bottom right is a fence to keep the li'l one away from the wires.

The desktop is homebuilt from components I got from newegg and what used to be called googlegear....all the CDs are from recently installing winXP and reinstalling RedHat 9.

Laptop is the wife's that I use only to check for page presentation on smaller resolution.

Those of you into gadgets will notice the Handspring Visor to the right of the keyboard....handy li'l bugger.

I can be more or less a mess or at times.

Cheers...

ok so here's mine

I have a tiny desk at work so I am messy too. But I'm proud of it because it shows how much I do here and how much I deal with. (notice the "apple man" my 4 year old son made for me on the wall!)

I'm not including my home workspace because my home computer is just a laptop.

You should hear the racket coming from my PC-7 Lian-Li aluminum case with 5 case fans, two PS fans, the chipset fan and CPU fans.....all whirring away.

That and the LiteOn CD-RW makes one hell of a whine when it burns at 48x :)

Music to my ears, at least...the 2 year old is facinated enough that i'm going to reassemble an old compaq desktop for her to mess with.

The other day, she managed to shut down my wife's laptop....with multiple files and apps open

I thought I would give an update to my previous messy workspaces, not to much has changed except more stuff seems to have accumulated

Those two PC's on top of the rack are running w/o HD ;) and there is 5 more PC's under the workbench there and 6 stacked up by the right workbench in the lower right hand corner :D

What is hard to tell in this next pic, is that there is about 10 cases stacked up back there behind the rack  oh and my party crew chair <- don't ask :?

I told you guy's it could get fuller <- is this a real word? Enjoy :D

p.s. for those of you keeping count of PC's there is around 25 to 30 see how many you can find

Okies, so I don't have photos yet (they'll be coming soon after I tidy, lol), but I've had a few people ask me about my network setup here at home, so I did this one tonight...

The computers in our house are in two rooms.

Room 1 contains cablemodem, 5 port 10/100 switch, Micro$oft MN-500 wireless router, 3 PCs, 2 printers.

Room 2 contains 5 port 10/100 switch, 4 PCs, 2 printers.

Room 2 is its own LAN. The PC in Room 1 will eventually have 11MBit wireless to Room 2 through a WET11.

The WET11 in Network 2 is an eventual add-on (there's no rush for it righ tnow). I'm also currently looking to add a low-end laptop (233-500Mhz, 128Meg, etc.) wireless to network 2 (anybody here got one they wanna sell cheap?)

Mine is a mess! I could hardly find my little camera to take the pic! My computer looks like an old POS but it is actually nice:

P4 3.06 GHz (HT) w/a 533 MHz FSB
1 GB of Corsair Dual Channel DDR RAM
Intel D875PBZ Motherboard
NVidia GeForce FX 5200 128mb (plan on upping to new 5950 Ultra)
SoundBlaster Audigy LS 24-bit
2x Maxtor 80 GB HDD

All this in a $20 case from CompUSA!

Top left machine is celeron 500 (free) with A geforce 2 196MB PC100. Dual booted for XP, and Xandros Desktop (Linux).

Bottom left machine is Pentium Pro 233 (free), with 128 EDO RAM lol.... Dual booted Windows 2000, and Mandrake 9.1.

Looking back at my bill in '01 at Sept. when I had 3/10's the computers it was 132.

This sept with everything you see it is only 8 bucks more.

I talked to the person at the electric company and they mostly bill seasonly, and the watts used do not fluxuate the price as much as the seasonal price does. Not sure how it works exactly they said something like that.

Black one to the right of it is our Windows 2003 server
Tall black one next is a new Gateway I was prepping for our HR director.
Farthest right is our old Novell server which I decommissioned.

In this one:

On the second shelf are just a couple of 3Com switches and a Cisco Pix firewall. The printers on top, I either need to repair or throw away.

My job, exactly? I suppose if you said "everything" it would be closest to the truth. I am the only IT guy, so I do everything from Network administration to Network security, hardware repair and troubleshooting, web site maintenance. We have about 35 workstations that I maintain, both hardwired LAN as well as wireless to our external buildings. My current assignment is I'm writing a database application to replace an existing program to document and track radiation dose readings.

Who, me? My computers are Gateways. The server is a Dell. I think that workstation on the left in the picture is a Compaq but it's an older model, and I don't know. At the moment I'm not at work and can't look.

Hey guys. Since i just got to these forums, and i love see what other peoples computers look like. I would like to do this again. Here are mine.

Heres my main Computer Area. Heres a close up of my side Panel! Here is a demented picture of my front side of my comp. It looks all scratched up cause of the flash. But its really not. In the dark pictures. Here is my Computer Repairing Station. And yes i am fixing all of these computers.

You should probably resize those pictures or link to them, CompMaster.. ;P

Woo, beat that. 3 monitors and a TV. :DD

Specs:
Pentium 4 1.8ghz
512mb DDR 2700
100gb HD
80gb HD
20gb HD
ATI Radeon 9200 - 128mb DDR - VGA Output, Composite/S-Video output
ATI Radeon 7000 - 32mb DDR - VGA Output, DVI output
Dvd +/- Writer - 16x

That little program showing the time on the TV screen is a program I wrote in about 10 minutes with VB. ;P

//edit: Oh yeah, forgot to say that even though I posted my workspace here once already, it changed. :E

Got a new PC today at work. Here are the awesome specs

Dual Quad Core Intel Xeon E5504

Dual 512MD nVidia Quadro FX 580
3x 450GB 15k RPM SAS drives in RAID-5

Everything is viewed on two 30" Dell Monitors
All packed in an Antec case that has a lot of fans on it.
