Having problems with second hard drive installation on Dell PC, Windows XP home, Pentium 4, 2.4GHz. Installed Western Digital 160Gig drive, windows detected drive at start up, drive appears in Hardware profile, as working properly but can't find in My Computer or sight any drive number so that I can format. Any help greatly appreciated.

Can you see it in disk management? If you can then right click it, and what options do you have?

If the drive isn't already formatted with a drive letter then you will not be able to see it in my computer.

Is it a brand new drive?

The second drive is brand new. I can see it device manager but can find no way to format it by right clicking.

Do you mean that you can see it in DISK Manager? You can access this by clicking start, run, and type in diskmgmt.msc

You could also partition and format it by using FDISK, but disk maanagement is probably easier.
