Problems with the new processor

Hello
I'm running on Intel Pentium 4, 3.40GHz cpu on LGA775, I recently purchased a Intel core 2 duo processor E8400, 3.0 GHz, I popped it in, and everything turned on, but nothing is showing up on the screen...I tried several times and nothing...so i put my old cpu in and everything works fine...Can anyone help me and tell me what I am doing wrong? it's there something i have to reconfigure on the computer before i put in a new processor? Most likely it's because your motherboard does not support a Core 2 Duo.
