ok while I can purchase a portable hard drive, great but I have numerous hard drives that have some good content on over the years of upgrading. I want to access these files but I don't wanna have to individually install each of these drives into my base unit just to copy content over.

Is their a specific device I should be looking for that allows me to attach and de attach regular IDE drives to and from it that I can access through a USB interface (like a regular fixed portable hdd only not a fixed hdd in it).

Upon searching, I see loads of portable hard drives but I want one that I can fix my own hard drive into it and various others.

I use an External USB HD Enclosure that sells for about $40. You can get them for IDE or SATA.
