I have an nvidia 6800 gs card, running dual view.
i currently am using a 19" and a 17" monitors.
I am looking to purchase a 22" lcd to replace the older 17.

MY question is, would it cause a problem if i did this? the res size of the current monitors are 1280 x 1024, the 22 has a res size of 1680 x 1050, would this exceed the maximum resolution of the card?

I am also wondering if the max resolution size is per monitor, or the maximum span?

Hey crashdan let me help you with this one.

That 6800 card you have can go up to resolution of 2048x1536 ,

LCD's do not support this high rez ,

You can just go to the rez limit allowed by the monitor .

1680 x 1050 is the max resolution on your lcd, Once you get the other lcd, you can also set that to 1680 x 1050 .

however your new LCD mite do higher resolutions,,, and u can go as high as the monitor supports.

The limiting factor is the LCD, not your geforce card.

my question was ... i use two monitors .... does this max res size of 2048 count as both monitors combined, or individually? but thank you for your response, i really do appreciate it.. i realize i forgot to mention this

Please read the above quote.

Just incase that doesn't click, he is saying that the max resolution is set individually not a combination.
