i've had my compaq R3000 for a few years and i bought the $350 Best Buy Geek Squad coverage (which is still good until December). I did that because i was going overseas and needed to be able to count on somebody to fix the hardware issues i didn't have time for. unfortunatly they don't cover *plum*.

My BIOS has a power on password set to nothing but that doesn't work. the hold power on password doesn't work and the backdoor passwords don't work.

i took it apart as much as i could but i still can't get to the CMOS w/o special tools and i can't reset it manually
any suggestions?

the only way to replace the bios is to take the cmos battery out and the problem is that the cmos battery i welded on the motherboard so you have to unwelded wait for a few minutes and then welded back.....you have to take the laptop apart completly ......i fyou cannot do this, i can do it for you for $60 dollars including shipping back to you ..........good luck
