Hi,

I'm helping my aunty look for a laptop...I'd like to recommend her a laptop of around £500 but a quality one.

My boyfriend got a laptop from PC World *sigh* without me and its an advent and imo it's crap...had nothing but problems with it. The screen fades/cuts out etc...

Anyway, will prob get one from PC world, as I expect she'd want the ease of returning if there are any problems...unless I can get a good deal online with a years warranty or something where they come out and collect or to the house and fix.

She doesn't need anything flash. _All_ she is going to use it for is email and internet...so a wireless laptop might be good.

Is compaq ok in general? they do laptops for around the £500 mark.

I have had good experiences with Desknotes. They use a lot of desktop componets (processor, RAM) so that upgrades and repairs are cheap. The drawback is that since the desktop componets take up extra space, they do not have internal batterys. This was never an issue - anywhere I went such as school, library, airport always had an AC plug on the wall...

I have a Toshiba Portege for work. It's a tablet PC. P3 1Ghz, 1GB ram, 40GB HDD, Windows XP Tablet PC Edition. It has built in wireless and bluetooth.

Beats the old compaq I had. I almost threw that thing in my fireplace and burnt it.
