I tried to use a router (actually, 2 different ones from different manufacturers) with my cable modem. For some reason it did not work. I called my ISP, Charter Communications as well as the tech support of the makers of the routers. They had me go through all the steps of hooking it up and checked out my settings. They also did the "ping" deal, whatever that is. They said all my settings are good to go, but it still did not work. They did not know what else to tell me. The ISP said to call the router company, and the router people said to call the ISP. The ISP guy said it seems as though the router doesn't read the address from the modem. Any ideas as to what the deal is????

I would consider the DLink, but Dynex not to pleased with them(I have one of there CD/RW and can't get any support or find out how to get the firmware upgrade).

I use a linksys, just hooked up everything and it worked. What firewall are you running?
