Is it harmful to my laptop to leave it on constantly like I do my desktop?

It is a PC right? They are all the same.... No matter the shape or size... They can be treated equally!

No absolutely not true. Laptops tend to run a lot hotter producing more
heat since you have far less space in the case to dissipate. You should
really have a habit of letting it go to sleep mode or shut it down.

I've seen plenty of laptops, including my own one time, fry because of
leaving it on for extended periods of time (weeks).

I will say, that this was a couple years ago when hardware wasn't quite
as reliable either. So, you never know...but I wouldn't recommend it.

Also if it isn't plugged in and is using battery power, that would be an awful waste if you just left it running while you weren't around

Yeah heating is a big problem, I saw a few snap on fans for the bottom of laptops but that seems overkill, just turn it off :-P

A friend once told me he OCed his laptop and when he left for vacation he forgot to turn it off so when they got back. (it was on a plastic table). The table had burn holes in it and the laptop was fried. Could have set his house on fire but he got lucky.

Wow...why would you want to overclock a laptop in the first place? Seems like a very silly idea.

i was waiting for the " dont do it replies" hence the "shocked" eyes.... I have a laptop that i did that to.... Or atleast beleive that is what i did to it.... They do run HOT fast... I always proped mine up when i was running it so that it had space underneath so it would cool down faster... Sleep mode is a good idea!! :D :D
