Well i don't know what the real idea is of sharing a scanner since yo always have to be physically availeble to put the paper to scan iin the scanner.

just make shure the pc from swhre you scan is shared on the network.

I don't sere the point of sharing it tbh..

Same can be said about using a shared printer though.

As long as all PCs use the same network protocol and the "file and printer sharing" option is enabled there should be a problem.

I've never seen a scanner shared through the network. You can share a printer, but even if it is a printer/scanner/fax etc combo, you will only be sharing the printer function of it. Your best bet would be an A/B switch for this.

In theory, as long as the TCP/IP settings and permissions on all the PCs it should work .

mmm

well i have a printer on a network not connected to any pc. When we work here at home all of us can work from it's own pc and just print the file whenever you need to. OFcourse you have to stand up at a certain point to go and get the papers tho, that is obvious.

If it wasn't shared everytime you work on a paper you have to print you would have to go and work on the pc where the printer is connected to.

Now with the scanner is a bit different, since, you always have to be near the scanner before you use it, since somehow the paper that has to be scanned needs to be put in the scanner, right ? ;)

you see the difference ?

can you immagine an office with 100 printers, for 100 ppl working ? :p

Scanner = put paper in
Printer = take paper out

Its just a simple reversal of roles. There isnt really alot of difference.

The real point of sharing a scanner is so that you can retain the scanning function of an all-in-one is the unit is plugged directly into a router with a usb port.

lucassix, you are my hero!

I've was looking for something like this a few months ago, since my ex-wife scans photos almost as much as I do (I've been placed in charge of the family album) and I still get tired of her interrupting my VERY IMPORTANT gaming sessions!
