I just got DSI for my desktop and also have a laptop which is not now connected. The desktop is connected via Ethernet to the DSI modem. Can I just move the cable from the desktop to the laptop to get software updates? I tried doing it and the Verizon DSI software didn't see the Internet, but the laptop nic card does see the modem. I heard about routers and switches and thought their might be more to it. Obviously, I would like not to get anymore equipment if necessary since I use the laptop only occasionally. I need to know if I should continue to troubleshoot the Verizon software or need a hardware solution. Thanks for any help or suggestions. :)

You mean DSL, I'm sure. Yes, you can move the cable to the laptop as long as you configure the network adapter to get an IP address from the modem.

Of course, the best thing to do is to get a router and keep both of them connected. I have 5 machines connected all the time.
