Hi

I've got a C-Media AC97 sound card in my computer. Does anyone know if this would be particually good for home recording (recording drum, guitars and vocals). If not, is there an affordable sound card that would do the job?

Thanks.

Yes, it is for professional recording - CD's to sell.

My Computer:

Processor: AMD Athlon 2Ghz
Memory: 2GB
Audio: C-Media AC97

The other equipment I use is:

Joemeek JM27 Condenser Mic
Carlsbro 400w PA amp

The other mics (drum mics) I don't know about, because they don't belong to me, but they're condensers.

The recording software I use is Magix.

The main problem we have is that we can't get the playback volume high enough without it peaking, whether we adjust the volume of amps, or adjust the volume of the recording in Magix. I assumed this would be because of the sound card.

yep.. probly. i used to have that problem w/ my old crap soundcard. go out and buy yourself an X-Fi from Creative SB. brand new technology. i have an audigy 2, the recording quality is CRYSTAL CLEAR, and i normally have to lower the volume, not make it higher.

X-Fi is not out yet... it will be the best sound processor ever made when it is out, like studio quality is what i heard. If you need to get the card fast, consider other types of SoundBlasters (large range) depending on how it will be hooked up to the computer. i have an audigy 2 zs gamer LE - i love it.
