i have integrated VIA VT1817 (I believe) and The sound crackles alot and then just dies until I restart the computer. I cant afford a non-integrated sound card at the moment so any fixes could be helpful. I have tried new drivers but they havent helped.

It is probably also worth mentioning that none of the back ports work for sound and I can only use the port located on the front of my PC.

Can you provide more details on the motherboard like a link to where to buy it or the manufacturer page?

Yes, I think we need more info on this one. In the mean time you can try some of this:

- Try changing the BIOS PCI configuration Latency from its default to see if this fix the problem.

- Have a look in Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices, do the correct playback and record devices show up? Are they greyed out? Is the checkbox to use only preferred devices checked? If you un/check it, does anything change? Is the correct speaker configuration chosen (advanced button)?
