Yes, you need sound drivers. You can access them from the Sony Vaio website.

The CD's that came with the system contained Media Center edition. He reloaded with home which IMHO was not a smart move. XP Home is worthless, you are better off with Media Center.

MC is a subset of XP Pro. XP Pro > XP Home anyday of the week.,

Yes, you are right.

WiZzArD_18 you have discussed this in Windows forum though not with this info.
But the solution is the same. You need the drivers that will be suitable to XP Home or just wipe out Home and install XP Media Center which came installed with the pc. If you are not given the cd you should claim for that from where you bought.

If you wish to stick with XP Home then you need to find the drivers for XP Home and your given Sound Card or onboard sound. Depending on which you're using you have to download them online, because the cds given with the machine probably go hand in hand with XP MC.

Otherwise if you go back to XP MC (which I think would be a better choice for the OS) then you simply just need to use the cds that came with the system or once again download the drivers for your given sound card/onboard sound.
