It sounds like you've lost all your drivers. Did you do a reinstall of Windows? Anyway you should have driver disks that came with the computer. Reinstall the drivers that came with the machine and you should be back in business.

1. You should open up your PC box and look at the mainboard's name (brand-ID) for example:
my board's a Epox-8RDA3+ and get its Driver (most probably from Manufacturer's site)

2. Then you find out what other Peripheral devices you have and lookup its drivers (including your sound CARD if it's not onboard)

3. Install them and i think you should be ok

By the way it would help if you provide information about your system specs

hi,

basically what it is is that i am having a problem with my sound, my sound card is 'sigmatel c-major audio' i would like to know how to get mixer devices for it because i try accesing contro panel 2 see the volume and it says 'you have to install mixer devices' and just now i got an alert from msn so i can hear but no because i went to windows media player to play some music and it said :

can not play audio steam: no audio hardware is available, or the hardware is not responding.

thanks please reply

edit:

i went to details and it said You either do not have a sound card installed on your computer or it is not functioning properly. If you do not have a sound card installed, you must install one before you can listen to audio in a digital media file. If you do have a sound card installed, refer to its documentation to troubleshoot the problem.

Googling for them is the best anyone can do, it should be pretty easy to get the drivers, they come as an installer, just run it and it'll fix it. If this doesnt do it then there might be a problem with the sound card. This is very unlikely though as ive never heard of a soundcard breaking.
