this is the temp i get for my leadtek 6800, now the cut off point is 135 deg... is that right?

and thats a nice OC, i ran 3dmark03 and then took the screens, so it never get anyhigher either.

also, when i allow nvidia to detect optimal frequesncy... it just crashes, and i get lots of artifacts.

hmm lol

well, see if u understand what i mean and if u have any idea :)

yeah the cut off temp is right i remember hearing it was 135 you can turn it down to 125 if you are uncomfortable.

not sure why "detect optimal frequencies" isnt working, I stay away from that anyway and just use manual increases to the frequencies then test after each jump of 3-5. When you reach your threshold on the frequencies (start seeing articles) back it off 5, test again, if there are no articles i like to back it off 2-5 more for safety.

That feature never worked on any of my cards!

How much overclocking did you get and what make of 6800 did card did you buy?

I am still pondering over if I should buy a 9800 Pro now or wait until until 6800 costs about £160 (about $250). After seeing the trailer of Half Life 2 and comparing it to Doom I think I will need a 6800.

Its the Leadtek 6800 Winfast A400

one big ass copper heatsink on it. thats why my temps are so low.

came with default clocks 325/700
the OC got it to 390-400/819 for about 10k in 3dmark03

i p[lay any game i have atm with 1280x1024, max graphics and 8xaa/16xaf

like COD, prince of persia etc

I got COD but I am big Medal Of Honour online player and even though my ti4400 does the job in this old game I need every FPS online. I will consider your card when HalfLife 2 comes out and its Weird how Leadtek GeForce FX5950 Ultra 256MB costs £50 more when it does not come close in the Doom3 benches:

yeh, mohaa is a dx8 game is i remember right, and the ti series are cracking dx8 cards.

the 5950 is more expensive, and i still dont know why, i think its because they cost alot to produce lol

can't wait til the maker of rivatuner releases the next version.
he has made it so it enables all 16 pipes in a 6800NU, and enabled 1 more vertex shader lol

seems a little strange.

9800pro - £130 - 3dmark03 = 6k
6800NU - £240 - 3dmark03 = 10k
6800GT - £320 - 3dmark03 = 12-14k

glad i made the right choice lol, i hope mine manages 16 pipes :D

No way will nvidia allow that considering the GT cards are much more expensive! I would however buy the 12 pipe one just in case cos it does a really good job and is best value for your buck with AA and AF on max and also these new ultra shadow stuff.

Even with 12 pipes the bottle neck (hahah lol) is likely to be your processor unless you have a Athlon 64 so that will be your next upgrade in 1-6 years time. Apparently its not the 64 bit that works hardest but the size of cache and memory controller in these new chips really helps Doom. However if you have a Barton like me (512k cache) then you can probably hang onto that for a bit longer.

BTW what is NU ?

Stop press because by now you should know not to do this as the process is not reversible. When you do there is a very high risk that the damaged pipes contained will show artefacts.

I have just got the 6800 and it runs fine though mine (Future Mark over 8500 on a AMD2800, have clock to 360/800. Actually increasing the memory speed makes very little deference to the speed of the card and the core gains you about 4% (2fps in Aquamark) which is to be expected.

hehe, i have already tried riva tuner, and no, my piplines wouldn't open in riva tuner.

so, i heard of some guy saying that he managed to get his card to softmod, using a bios flash, so i decided to give it a go

downloaded the bios from a website, modden the gt bios to the same clocks as i was using and used nflash

well, my card booted up with artifacts lol

managed to download the 6800NU bios, and flashed back to the originals, well it was fine again

so yes, my card is fine, and i have flashed it a few times now lol, like increasing the voltage on the mem and core for better OC

i am just trying for 11k on 3dmark03 now lol, i can get 10,700

i get 400/800, on a bad day about 398 on core lol, no idea why the big dif, but i just get that it can't cope error, and it resets.. no actual artifacts.

only get artifacts on core.

funny thing... i took the side of my case off and directed a deskfan into it.

well, got the temps down to about 46degC, hehe, and still no better OC, i think that i hit the max for it.

but i would not suggest the Flash tho, i dont think its worth the effort, or the chance of a dead £240 card lol

i bin flashing away and i didn't really get an increase, the card is smashing in all games anyway lol

cool.

My 3d future mark 04 score was only 8840 and that seems a little low (Must be the Barton 2800). I guess the Intel chips win the future mark 04 benchmark tests thus I dont rate Future Mark.

Aqua Mark 3 however was a good 46.600 (GFX 7200 CPU 6608).

Bring on Half Life 2!!!

hehe! I think I meant 3dmark03 from Futuremark!

Been playing Doom3 on it and its pretty impressive though the game itself did not engage me. I found over clocking the memory does bugger all to the performance even though I thought it would due to only having 128MB of it.

I am going to hunt around for a better fan though the one on the XFX can be herd from the next room because its too small I think. Haven’t seen any yet.

Even though the cut off temperature is set at over 100 degrees I don’t think the chips can reach that at all and is probably around the temperature range of the Barton (70-80C). I also want to be able to reach your level of core speed and have improved my ambient temperature by removing a spare CD Drive bay at the top of the case and allowing fresh air to go directly to the PSU...I then removed the fan having filtered air going in and added a fast extractor fan. - Result 7C cooler CPU and over 10C less ambient but more dust :? !

I can now get upto 360 core.
