I have about 10 USB ports on my comp, and one problem that I currently have is that anywhere where I plugin a usb device xp doesn't detect it. But my mouse and printer are both hooked up to it.

So they work, just that they wont detect any new devices that I plug in. I am running Service Pack 2 on XP Pro, and have already looked for updates in windows update about this issue but ended up empty handed.

Does anyone know what todo?

are there actually 10 USB ports, or are you using a hub? I've seen that many devices require power over USB and if the devices are plugged into a hub, it needs to be a powered hub (one with an external power supply) in order to give enough operating power to the devices on that hub.

Just a thought.
