Post 3+ Months Ago

hey y'all, its been a while since i posted here but i need your opinions [and help]. i recently got a laptop but to keep it as inexpensive as possible, i needed to skimp on a few things, mainly ram and hdd space. ive got a gig of ram, but only 60gb of hdd space which i've filled 51 of already. im considering buying an external harddrive but need to know what kind of bottleneck im going to be seeing with it. it would most likely by usb 2.0, but i might be able to bite the bullet and purchase a pcmcia e-sata card and get an external drive that supports that connector as well.

to reiterate, i need to know:
-the bottleneck of having a usb 2.0 external drive vs e-sata
-what kind of performance i would experience using the external drive via usb with games vs media

thank you in advance

USB 2.0 is 480Mbits/second
SATA is 1.5 to 6Gbits/second
CardBus is 133 Mbps at 33MHz

USB would probably be your best bet. Your bottleneck in any situation will probably be your hard drive itself.
