Hallo,

I have a problem with my DVD Writer.
I use nero 7 Premium to burn the DVD's.
After the DVD is burned I get a message that every
thing is completed succesfully. So after that I want to try the DVD.
I put it in the drive and I realise that it is completely empty :?
I tried using another burning program but I had the same problem.
I do not have any problem burning normal CD's.
Can somebody solve this mistery? :?

Thank You,

Meron

Make sure it is not set on "Pretend" or "Test". Sometimes burning programs use that feature to test if the burn will be successful to prevent coasters.

Are the burnt DVD's coasters afterwards or just never actually written to?

What brand/make DVD's? DVD+R, -R, +RW, +R DL, etc...?

What brand, Make, Model, Firmware, Etc is your DVD burner?

Did nero come with the DVD burner and does nero and the "other" program corretcly identify your exact burner?

Are you running AnyDVD or another anti-CSS background process?

Have you changed the region code on you DVD burner at any time?

Have you ever played a Sony cd on your computer?

Finally, and I hate to ask - and you can PM this answer to me if you prefer, but I only ask because I ran into this before with someone else... Are these burning programs legally obtained with correct licenses? Have they been cracked in any way?

Hi GT500Shlby,

What brand, Make, Model, Firmware, Etc is your DVD burner?
Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-R6112

Did nero come with the DVD burner and does nero and the "other" program corretcly identify your exact burner?
No they didn't come with the DVD burner

Are you running AnyDVD or another anti-CSS background process?
No

Have you changed the region code on you DVD burner at any time?
No

Have you ever played a Sony cd on your computer?
No

Finally, and I hate to ask - and you can PM this answer to me if you prefer, but I only ask because I ran into this before with someone else... Are these burning programs legally obtained with correct licenses? Have they been cracked in any way?
No, trust me they are completely legal. Nero 7 Premium and with the other
program I ment Pinnacle Studio 9. It gives the opportunitty to burn the DVD.

Thank you

Well, from what I can gather it could either be disc to burner incompatibility or program to burner incompatibility. I'm thinking it is the latter. Sometimes the program gives the wrong "code". Most CD & DVD Burners contain the ability to do a dry-run on the disk. It pretends to burn the data to the disk to check for speed, Buffer underruns/overflows, driver incompatibility, etc... Instructions are sent to the burner via a hexadecimal code which tells the burner what to do. Through some fluke or misconfiguration, the two codes maybe have gotten "switched".

There are some DVD burners that need to be patched in order to read/write certain types of DVD-R/DVD+R disks, so it COULD be a disc to burner incompatibility.

Meron, have you tried looking at Toshiba's website to see if they have a firmware upgrade for your drive?

If you haven't yet and you decide to take a peek, make sure you read all the documentation fully before deciding whether to apply or not. That may not be your problem, and sometimes firmware upgrades can do more harm than good if the current firmware is not a problem. :)

Thanks for your help guys,

I'll try and have a look at my nero, and I think taking a peek at the Toshiba
website is a very good idea.

It could also be your DVD player. Some DVD players do not support DVD writables. And your computer may not have the DVD codec. Make sure they both are fine.

I have the same problem with my DVD-RW TOSHIBA SD-R6112, but my problem is with all type of burned DVD-R, not only with videos. I have wrote to TOSHIBA and the replied me teling this:

"thank you for contacting Toshiba SDD.

Please be aware that this drive is limited in medias.
Please use medias of following manufacturers (DVD-R up to max. 4x and DVD-RW up to max. 2x):
Taiyo-Yuden
TDK
Mitsubishi Chemical
Hitachi Maxell
Fuji-Film
PVC (Pioneer)
Ritek
Panasonic
Mitsui Chemical
Sony
CMC "

I were using Verbatim DVD-R, so I suppose this was the problem. I will try any of this listed media and I'll see.

......
the problem seems to be that you have got an WRONG S/N for NERO....
ONCE YOU ENTER AN WRONG SN, NERO WILL "BURN" your DISK WITH NOTHING - I mean the disc IS recorded, but it can be NEVER usable......
