What are the effects of heat on the HDD

hi i was just a bit curious what the effects of heat on the hdd?

In my experience, the motherboard is affected more than the HD.

increasing amount of it will make your HDD function erraticaly, then the disk will expand in size (thermodynamics) then it will slowly melt like a chocolate and ultimately reach the kindling temperature and fire up.

but in threshold, heat affect processors more than HDD.

Ummm, you'd likely see massive corruption of data long before your disk was physically affected by heat...let alone the odor becoming quite noticeable :lol:

High temperatures negatively impact on the transfer of electrons (data) through any sort of chips or wires, so you'd start seeing file read, write and save errors before long...hopefully you'd be in a position to take corrective measures before these errors became excessive.

I agree with everything above. You should be more concerned about your cpu and videocard. They are more likely to overheat and break then your hdd. Either way it can't hurt to keep everything cool :).

But considering his rather direct question, I can't help wonder if he isn't actually having issues of heat from a hard drive.
