I would just like to see what people are using, I'm always interested to see the "compatition"

If you're interested I built my computer not long ago:
I'm using a AMD 64bit processor, 2gb's of RAM, 2 Western Digital 74gb 10,000RPM hard drives(raided of course), Sound Audigy Platinum2 sound card, Radeon X800XT video card, DVD burner, CDburner, and to hold it all together a Black Guardian Tower.

Hmmm, im ashimed to post my current specs but here we go,

PIII 550 Katmai Core... (yeah its bad... very very very bad...)
320MB of Ram
1x 13gb hard disk
1x 120gb western digital caviar special edition
Sound Blaster Live! ( 8) )
and last and worst a geforce mx 200....tom k is right intergrated graphics are better.

Thankfully i dont have to put up with this for much longer as i have this on order

Athlon 64 3000+ (winchester core)
Abit AV8 3rd Eye
256mb of PC3200 GeIL Ram

Abit says that the motherboard only supports PC3200 and below, but am i right in think that i could get PC3500 to work with this...?

Does anyone have any ideas about a budget grapfics card that i could get for under £70 im thinking of the Radeon 9500?

Comp Specs:

AMD Athlon 1800+ (runs at about 1.5)
256mb DDR

1x 20gb Maxtor (music hd)
1x 1.3gb Maxtor (pictures hd)
4x DVD +/- Writer
17" CRT on a nvidia gforce 2 400mx 64mb

Hehehehehe......Here goes!

Asus P4P800 SE Mobo
P4 OCed to 3.6GHz w/ HT (stock 3.06GHz)
1GB 400MHz Corsair RAM (OCed also)
128MB GeForce 6800 (OCed to 390MHz Core from 370)

120GB Seagate Barracuda (7200RPM)
52x24x52 CD+RW

SoundBlaster Audigy LS 24-bit Sound
350-Watt PSU (my 480 died)
350-Watt Speakers (w/sub woofer)
Logitech Wireless Mouse & Keyboard
Linksys Wireless G NIC

There are the basics for ya!
Total Cost =~ $1450 w/o the stereo speakers

PS: I got a POS printer/scanner too.....but it is just that.
EDIT: That is clearly not a stock system....I build my comps all on me lonesome! The system will run just about anything you throw at it without a problem.....but I am gonna switch over to SATA Drives within the next 3 Months.....I just gotta get the effort together to clone the drive.....I don't wanna reinstall everything!

I originally had windows xp pro installed and the iso i had would not load on start-up. So i chose to upgrade from xp pro to server 2003. Thats how I did it. Of course i had to look around for new drivers for my network card so i had to remove the card, get the serial number, reinstall the card. Go on the internet with my xp/longhorn machine, download the drivers, and burn em to a cd. Then all i did was get winrar on the server, extract the drivers, then install em. The network was a huge problem but i got that fixed. I run the server from remote desktop admin so it feels slow with the latency. Plus the network card is only 10mbps so you can imaging how it feels.

The ram really helps out in the end.

Crap Raj. Thats nuts!!! Old machines are a lot of fun. LOL. I wish i could get a new cd drive, monitor and a 20gb hdd for my server so i can try out red hat 9 and see how it runs. That'd be fun.

I have a friend that might give me that monitor. I just need a normal cd rom drive and a hdd. I could probably go to some comp festival and steal a hard drive out of there. LOL

They do look pretty tasty.

That said, have you seen the new "Cell Chips" that Sony and IBM have developed for the PS3 ?

They are hoping to develope them more so they can be incorporated into home appliances like your kettle and TV.

They are also thinking about perhaps using it for PCs.

Cell Specs :

Faster than 4 GHz
256 billion calculations per second
2.5MB of on-chip memory
Able to shuttle data to and from off-chip memory at speeds up to 100 gigabytes per second,
234 million transistors

For a processor no bigger than a pin, thats some pretty amazing power.

http://www.itweek.co.uk/news/1129582 <-- Intel 4Ghz CPU

Also it is possible to O/C a CPU to get to 4Ghz.

From the spec list I supplied that would have been the last thing I would have been curious about.

The fact is has 234 million transistors & a 100 Gb/ps transfer rate would have caught my eye before that.

8x DVD +- r Burner
Power is provided by Antec Neo 480W PSU
All of this is nicely tucked into an Antec PlusView 1000AMG with a couple of cold cathode lights.

It is not the fastest thing on the planet but it works nicely for me
