In a nutshell i will be using my laptop to watch movies, listen to music, planning on playing high graphics/quality previous, current and future games, run appz like photoshop, frontpage, burn dvds and cds at high fast/speed without leeching all of my system ram and cpu usage, want to connect my laptop to my tv to watch movies (with good quality/speed) from my notebook.I know that i have already posted something similar before. This time around its a bit different because i have done alot of research and narrowed my choices down. I am hoping to get honest opinions as to which laptop will suite my needs. Please check out the following laptops and tell me if you were to choose which one would you buy and why?

get the 9400 with the upgraded video card [the 7800 go].

make sure you only get one stick of ram from dell [keep it at one gig] and upgrade the ram on your own.

Hi why did you choose the 9400 ? I can't get the 256MB NVIDA® GeForce™ Go 7800 [add $350 or $8/month1] for obvious reasons, it's $350 addition cost which i can't afford atm. Secondaly isnt the dell 6400 exactly the same thing except the screen size difference ? Also have you taken a look at this
http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetai ... S10074459#
It says it has a battery life of 7.5 hours. Is this true ? or is it a trick ? Thx in advance

its not really a lie about the battery life. its just a conjunction of the high capacity battery, integrated video, lowe[er] speed processor and the fact that they can say "7.5 hours" after they shut of the internal network card, set the screen brightness to the lowest level. throttle the cpu down, turn of the volume, remove power from peripheral connectors, turn the screen off after 5 minutes, park hard drive after 10, and all that other power-saving goodness.

essentially, to get the 7.5 hours battery life, you will be running a crippled machine

as for the 9400v6400 thing. im sorry, i didnt completely read your post, but after i did, i still couldnt find a mention of a price range.

my justification for the 9400 with the 7800go was that if you want to play high end games, youre going to need it. the 7800go is the equivalent of a desktop 6800, and therefore a very good card. the x1400 is imilar to the 7600go, and offers mediocre performance.

however, with the downgraded graphics, youre going to get better battery lif, but you might have to sacrifice the gaming.

http://www.xpbargains.com/dell_coupons/

look at the table at the bottom of the page

$750 off of anything over $1999. go for that video card!
also, check ebay for $100 stackable coupons. you can add those on top of the $750 discount, and they only cost around $5.

hey there.

well i have the 9400, with a T2300 and i didn't upgrade the video card.

i upgraded the monitor to true bright and it's fantastic. really really really worth the money.

17" is huge, but it's great if you like a high resolution monitor and it's great for watching movies.

The battery life is pretty good depending on what you're doing, such as a I watching a movie will drain the battery fast. If you're just web browing it will last most of the day, about 6-7 hours.

I upgraded the wireless card and it's worth it too. I read the Intel card was the best and I can pretty much get a signal almost anywhere.

Hard drive didn't touch, I figure I would get an external if I need more room.

The ram I got is dual channel 1G 533mhz. It's not bad, but I would like 2G.

Hope this helps. But if anything upgrade the monitor, everyone will be saying...DAMN THAT LOOKS GOOD! I promise!

Hi "think.correctly" thx for the reply, i decided to go with dell Inspiron 9400 and i went to the coupons section of the link you provided me also i went to
http://www.notebookreview.com/dellCoupon.asp
I tried entering these coupons to get discount in my cart, but it says

"Coupons Entered
The following coupons have been entered but require additional information or do not meet eligibility requirements. Click "View Details" link(s) for more information.
$750 off $1999+ Inspiron"

I am guessing these coupons are valid on Dell.com only and not on Dell.ca. Is there any way i can get coupons or discounts for Dell.ca ?

And "Kap-Vu" good for you if your enjoying your Laptop (are you in Canada) :D How much did you pay for it ? How did you order it , online or on the phone? Did you try or got any discount ? How ? Please help me out as i obviously can't pay $2000 for a laptop

Lols i found that one myself before as well, but did you notice the expiry date on that one :D
"$300 off $1499+ on these Select Laptops + Free Shipping! X08J1L5Z0$2RDW 10/08/2005"

Would you say it would be cheaper for me to order off something from Dell.com by using the coupons and ask them to ship to Canada ? If you know what i mean ? USA has only 7% tax as compared t our 15% and also the cost is lower because of the coupons.

i got this special coupon in the mail for 40% off any laptop. I paid only $913 for my laptop with all the upgrades. I ordered offline and just enter the coupon code. I also waited for the special week when they off the dvd burner and the memory upgrade for free to use the coupon, that way i got all the upgrades i wanted.

patience is a virtue.
