Why was low level format removed from HDD

Hy,

I remember with my 80mg (yes its 80 megabite) HDD their was an option on the motherboard bios that would allow me to do a low level format....

Why did they remove it?

I didn't know that the user ever had the option of doing that...I guess now I do....that is interesting....it would be like the hard-drive creating its self. Hmm....
