WLAN Settings to Compaq Laptop

Recently we bought a Compaq Laptop Model.No:CQ40-144TU,for that I need to connect with Wireless broad band Internet.I dont know how to connect or configur with the Laptop?

Click start, connect to. A list of available networks will appear. Make sure that the blue light on the wireless button is on. It's to the left of the power button.
