I'm getting ready to build myself a new rig here pretty soon as I've put it off for long enough now. Here's what I've come up with so far:

Antec P-160 Aluminum Case
Antec 480W TrueBlue Power Supply
AMD Athlon 64 3400+ (Socket 754) *
MSI "K8N Neo Platinum" nForce3 250Gb Chipset Motherboard OR ASUS "K8V SE Deluxe" K8T800 Chipset Motherboard *
Kingston 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200 x2
ATI RADEON X800 PRO
Western Digital Special Edition 120GB 7200RPM IDE Hard Drive

The first question I have is do you think I should go ahead and get a socket 754 chip or move to a new socket 939 chip?

The second question I have is on the motherboard for the 754. The two that I chose seem to be the two that I hear people raving about the most and I'm just wondering what you guys think.

I come in search of almighty wisdom. Any thoughts, comments, suggestions you may have are appreciated.

Discuss.

As far as I know only the FX-51 and -53 require registered RAM.

Which motherboard do you think I should go with?

Hey jnacool I knew you were talking about XP 64 bit I was just saying that longhorn should run nice on that when the final release comes out.
