550 Email Rule (revisited)

Hi there.

I am getting intermittent but persistent issues with Email (using Exchange 2003 SP2). A lot of users trying to email out from our system are getting the following error (though they send fine from POP mail accounts):

MAIL FROM: 550 Sender verify failed

Also, people from outside sources occasionally receive the following error when trying to send to internal addresses:

550 Rule imposed as {person}@{domain}.com is believed to be open relay

I have read the following post http://www.ozzu.com/hosting-forum/email-problem-550-verification-failed-t20812.html, but this has not solved the issue.

Any ideas? I'd love to know what is going on here.
