ICANN released 3 TLD's in non-latin.

"The three new top-level domains are السعودية. (“Al-Saudiah”), امارات. ( “Emarat”) and مصر. (“Misr”). All three are Arabic script domains, and will enable domain names written fully right-to-left."

Oddly enough, it is not Chinese or Japanese like I would have imagined.

That is very interesting news. I remember hearing awhile back that something like this would eventually be happening, although, like you said I thought it would have been Chinese or Japanese TLDs first.

Arabic sort of makes sense to me. When I look around at programming, design, etc tools a lot of times I see something special for Arabic language users.

I need to find out how you say "oil" in Arabic, and then write a script that registers everything with that set of characters in it. :D

Well most likely George it's because over one fourth of the world's population is Muslim, which in most cases means they probably speak or read and write Arabic.

And Joe I could probably ask my daughter on "oil". She translates Arabic for the Navy.

//for the record it's نفط

Kind or odd...After I pasted that I realized since arabic is right to left I couldn't add anything on that line after it and had to be to the left of it to hit enter to line feed. lol Languages are odd things.

That's right ATNO/TW .. and there's one more thing that is most of the arabian people cant speak or write in english but they are highly educated ..

BTW : "oil" doesn't just mean نفط it's also mean زيت .
