Last month we used 18mb of bandwidth and it cost us over $1,800.00

Anyone have any suggestions? I've contacted rackspace and next will call mosso, but need more solutions to look into. Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks!

Yes, something is definitely off. We have a contract for 4mb a month but we have been growing and the overage charges are astronomical. That is why I need a new host. The month before was $2,500! It does seem unbelievable, I know...but it's true.

with 1800 you can buy many dedicated hosting servers. this is totally wrong. check with hosting company again.

Invoice: 11744
Total Due: $1,866.80
Due Date: 12/01/2007

November Bandwidth Overage - Alloted 4.0 Mbits, Used 18.36 Mbits, Overage 14.36 Mbits. Burst Rate $130.00 per Mbit. Total $130.00 x 14.36 = $1,866.80

This is a portion of last months invoice I copied. I'm just getting ripped off. They are also pushing me to buy a dedicated server which is ridiculous.

Read there T.O.S and see iff they mention anything about bandwidth charges, Iff they dont then dont pay it.

Also I would take this to a small claims court. Or get some kind of legal advice.

remember, Mbits is not the same thing as Mbytes. Something on your account is getting taxed big time. Maybe some pictures, or video? did you blog something? Share a vid on myspace? I'd take a look at that cuz these charges seem legit based on the rates you list. Something on your site is really getting pushed hard.

My site is http://www.skybreezegames.com -- it's a dress up game site for girls.

I'm totally confused too. I'm new to this, this is actually a family site and I've been promoting it lately. It's grown from an average of 7MB to 18MB bandwidth pretty quickly and thats when our prices shot up.

Could it be the myspace comments we added? You'll see them under glitter art. Thanks for your feedback, it's helpful.

Wait, mega-BITS? I am with Unflux; there's no way any respectable company would charge by the megabit.
Certainly you must mean megabytes .... If not, I have some swamp land to sell you. :)

As for the overage charges ... that is something I have seen. Unscrupulous providers who hide out of band charges in the fine print for exceeding some obscure threshold. Granted, there should be penalties, but they should be clearly stated and understood up front.

Who is the host, if I might inquire? I would like to see if their site defines such arbitrary thresholds plainly.
