The way that search engines find new websites is they will visit 1 website that is already in their index, then from that site, they'll follow all of the links on that site.

So submit your link to those sites which are already listed and having good PR
Also do some free & paid directory submissions for link back.

Soon you will be listed in Google and other search engines

Once your site got indexed then still you should get backlinks and update your content for getting top ranking in SERP.
Getting your site index is easy but getting top position for your keywords is very difficult.....

I would enter any domain you care about manually to the leading search engines. Their are some sites/software that allow auto inclusion but doesn't always work.

Post around in any forum, directory you can. They will find you!
Also by building backlinks and content on your site you'll be indexed more often.

According to me the fastest way to get your site onto search engine is Directories submissions(manual). Basically one way link(free links).

After that you can do link exchange in order to increase your traffics.

goodluck!.

But according to my knowledge high pr sites are not willing to link with a lower pr sites. So what we shall do in this situations for link exchange with another site of higher page rank.

Don't start with linkexchage with big bulls, first get free backlinks by directory/SE submission, update/add unique content get your site index and if you get some decent PR then start exchange links or if you are ready to invest try to purchase some high PR links.

Start by submitting manually

If manual submissions take to long then try to get a link on a site thta gets crawled daily

Getting quality back links is the number one way to get your site listed quickly, for example if you had a link on the home page of ebay (I know unrealistic but don't we all wish :) ) you would probably get included the same day or the next day because Google spiders ebay a lot since it is very popular.

back links are also important in the long run because they help to improve SERP (search engine result placement)

Hope this helps
