Anyone know of a site that will rank and give reviews on the best webhost? I'm looking for a web host for my site; however, there are so many web host out there that I don't know where to start. ipowerweb.com seem pretty good; however, they do not offer listserv. Any suggestion will be appreciated.

Check here: http://www.webhostingunleashed.com/

Also PM both UNFLUX and Bigwebmaster about their hosting services. I know they both offer good services. Either one may have what you need. And their prices are reasonable.

unflux.net is a static page with an image going half way down the page, nothing more.

Unless I'm missing more than just a few brain cells :)

Many thanks for those links. However, one quick question. Why is it Yahoo, Dell or some big company names charge more for web hosting with less services while some unknown or small company charge way less for more services? Is there a quality or reliability gap here? I guess my question is why are people not rushing to those cheap services instead of Dell or Yahoo?

for the same reason coca-cola costs more than RC cola. you're paying for the name, IMO. To be honest with you, you're almost better going with one of the smaller places. In my experience they offer far better service than the big guys do. WIth my host, any emails I send them are answered in 30 minutes or less, every time. I doubt yahoo has that sort of response time.

that's not to say yahoo is bad. just that smaller places have the ability to focus more on customer service and be more responsive to customer needs.

It's the same reason why so many people chose MSN and AOL internet access.
Both of those companies (and others) charged outrageous fees just to allow you internet access at dialup speeds, but at anywhere from 2x to 8x the cost of the little hometown ISP, however the bigger services were often sold bundled with computer systems, and it was often easier for the unknowing customer to simply go with the herd.

Again, it's the same reason why the various flavors of linux never became a household name.
People don't want common sense, they want ease of use and plug and pray software...even my own brother-in-law went with AOL AFTER I told him the facts of life *l*
Some folk see the smaller venders as "geeky" and are unwilling to venture into that unknown.

Just an opinion, eh...

Cheers...

Thanks, Cold Canuck, for sharing your opinions. And by the way, I like your quote. Mind if I borrow it?

I can't give permission to use something I don't own, sorry.
I've tried finding the identity of the author, to no avail so far.

Cheers...
