Maybe it's just the way your host has it setup. Have you tried contacting them?

Yea, the only alternative he had to the situation was to set me up with a second account for my second domain which would cost extra. :(

Well, if that's all your host offers, it doesn't leave you with much choice.

Well, it's best to have a specific vhost entry for each domain, not just a domain forwarder.

But I've got several domains hosted on one package, and the URLs work good. You just have to remember to end directories with a trailing slash...

http://www.domain2.com/something == http://www.domain1.com/domain2/something/

http://www.domain2.com/something/ should show correctly.

That's the only real thing to be careful with on Cpanel addon domains.

Does anyone know whether this has been fixed?

I've been reading this post, dated from '04, and have learned a lot more than what I knew before, but still...

Now I know that the nameservers on any new second domain you wish to add using addon domain have to be changed to the primary domain's nameservers.

And, from this discussion, it seems that it's, indeed, possible to do what I need to do using a cPanel hosting acct. that allows multiple addons. And that is, to be able to add new domains, and to be able to call them by their specific names, rather than by having to invoke the primary domain's name, as well.

So, I can have http://www.primarydomain.com
Then, using addon, I can add http://www.newdomain.com and still be able to refer to connect to it using that name, instead of http://www.newdomain/primarydomain.com (or, something like that).

Am I right, so far?

But, what I don't get is, what exactly do I enter for Username/directory/subdirectory?

For Username, do I use my hosting acct's username? Do I make up a username specifically for the new domain?
And, what about directory, and subdirectory? Would I make up a Directory called newdomain? So, what would the subdirectory be, based on these choices?

thanks

Username would be whatever you'd want to use to have a seperate account for the addon domain. If you wanted your user to only have access to that one domain, you'd give it a username and he'd login via FTP with whatever@addondomain.com

Directory shows what directory the files are stored on for your root account. Eg: /home/user/public_html/addondomain/

Subdomain would be just another way to access the files. subdomain.maindomain.com or addondomain.com

Thanks for your prompt reply, Michael.

Unfortunately, and at the risk of sounding as dumb as a dingbat, I still don't get the specifics. If you could bear with me, I'd really appreciate it...

My main domain is: http://www.firstdomain.com

Say, I have a new domain which I want to add to my cPanel hosting acct.

Its name is http://www.newdomain.com
And, I wish for it to resolve when I enter exactly that on my browser.

I wish to assign it a username like: newusername.

So, the command line asking for username/directory/subdirectory would look like this?

newusername/firstdomain.com/newdomain

Or, is this all wrong?

thanks for any help you can offer

It would be newusername/newdomain/newdomain.

That way it will resolve as:
newdomain.com
newdomain.firstdomain.com
firstdomain.com/newdomain/

Make a little bit more sense?

Yes, it makes perfect sense now. Thanks for your patience.

Hey guys,

I seem to be having issues with this also.
Having read over it, i'm certain i'm doing the right thing, but it's got an error.

"Error from park wrapper: mountaincreative.com.au is owned by another user."

Obviously i own both domains i'm using, but how do i make cPanel realise that it is my domain name?

1st domain (main): combatcontrolteam.com
2nd domain (addon): mountaincreative.com.au

The fields i have are in cPanel X (or ten i'm guessing).

New Domain Name:
Username/directory/subdomain Name:
Password:

I am entering.

New Domain Name: mountaincreative.com.au
Username/directory/subdomain Name: mountaincreative
Password: ***********

Now it's actually creating the folder on the server.
But with that error there, it's just not working.

Any ideas guys?
