In my Cpanel i have "Password Protect Directories". Say i put a password and username on the dir music. if i make a link to a file in that dir to play music on my webpage would it play or not?

Im trying to make it so views cant download music but can lisen to them is this posible with using "Password Protect Directories"

take a look at this, it doesn't use that part of cPanel but rather, a .htaccess file. it's pretty simple:

EDIT:
obviously, you'd need to change it a little bit to work with you, but I think it should do the trick.

is there a way to make it so views cant down load anything from a dir with htaccess too?

like making it so they cant link directly to a file?

just make it so that their is no index and its a vitural directory. that way they can't view it. and then make the song load in a frame w/o the outline so it looks like a part of the page. then when they look for the song they see nothing. and then the song page has the player on it.

that works. the .htaccess method is a touch more secure... but more of a pain.

but that doesnt stop them from going to a link and right click, save traget as. Is there way to make it so they get an error when they try to download the file like that?

I thought you were going to embed stuff on the page. In this case, I think you'd have to be running (or using) some kind of on demand streaming. This is usually achieved with windows media server.. $30.00 would be typical for 100mb worth of songs at 64kbps with 20 listeners at any given time. You can get this through audiorealm.com

You can try using a JavaScript too disable the right click..

If you tap 'Enter' then 'Right Click' fast enough this is easily overcome.

Some browsers have an option to disable the disabled right click, so by disabling the disabled right click it enables it ........
