Go Daddy has the option to have a dedicated IP. I have a small site and don't physically need one. But I am wondering if it is a bit of insurance against getting banned if someone else does something.

Any thoughts?

It's not insurance against getting banned. You will know when the time comes if you need a dedicated IP.

Hello roma,

Technically, you require justification for a dedicated IP. The only legitimate reasons for having one in a shared environment are:

- anonymous FTP
- SSL
- private nameservers

If someone sends out SPAM and gets the servers main IP blacklisted having a Dedicated IP in the same subnet/octet will not protect you. Spam lists generally block out the entire subnet/octet.
