i had someone to make a site for a person. he made it and its working. The person who made it is now not giving the control panel password. We don't know from where he hosted the site. Now the client wants to close the site for that person might use it for some illigal purpose. Can anyone tell me how to go about it.

I have heard that a million times and the answer is not what you want to hear. The person who registered the site is the legal owner, not your client.

He can sue him in small claims court to get control back. He may or may not win. No lawyer is needed. It costs about $25 to file.

If you give me the domain name, I can tell you with whom it's registered.

May I ask why you didn't host the site for the "contractor" so they you would have the rights to the control?

You mean the 'client' not the contractor but either way, it's too late.

Very true Don.

Either way one of them could get the password easier.

Small claims court is you only chance if the registrant has an office here. I'll explain how it works if he is interested but I have one question. How is it that the registrant's address is in India? The hosting company seems to be in India too. How did you get involved with those people?

There is nothing on the page .... It looks like the site was taken down?

This is the error I got when I looked at it ...

If there is nothing on the page, that's what the owner wants but he still wants control over the domain name. Either that or he can register dr_samarchowdhury.com or doctor_samarchowdhury.com or some variation. Then he can start from scratch.

Did the owner or the designer pay for the domain name?

From all the responses it appears the designer paid for the hosting.

Dear Don2007,
First of all I thank you for the address you provided.
My Friend stays in India and in Kolkata only. I can pass him the address so that they can help him. That was a good job man. I really thank you.
