Hi, i'm having dns troubles at the moment, here's the story.

My domain http://www.electric-spirit.net is fully propogated but since the word go ive been having trouble accessing my site, i can see it from time to time, others see it all the time, some are having the same problem as me.

My host is using a shared ip adress as shown below, i added the following entries to my host file at the below location:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc

66.232.114.212 http://www.electric-spirit.net
66.232.114.212 electric-spirit.net

last night when i tried that my site instantly worked.

now all i get is gateway timeout, so have i to add something else to stop the gateway timeout from appearing?

also removing the above entires from the host file causes ping to fail when i do a ping, i put the entries back in then ping works, but the ping time has been around 1000ms upwards, on one ocaision one ping failed the others worked but were slow.

so what's the fix?

Thanks for any help

Most likely they were having some network issues where you host your site.

I checked DNS, and there's some glaring errors in how it's configured, though nothing that would account specifically for this.

You just hosting this site on a friend's setup? Looks horrible; you get what you pay for.

Hi

thanks for the reply, i dont want to have to move host just yet as it is quite a bit of hastle, what if i get the same problems again with another host? then all the effort would come to nothing.

If there's a fix ill use it.

Is there anything i can tell my server admin so he could maybe fix the problem at his end?

thanks again

You might want to tell your host about this:

Well, yes those were the glarings issues I was speaking of; however none of those apply to this problem (note the www section is clean).

Most likely it is/was a backend issue if he's getting a 503.

I should probably say that this happens whenever those above ips are added to the windows host file, i take them of and i get could not find.

Thought that might help :)

I'd also like to ask about the SOA REFRESH time, does that not mean that it's probably not helping my problem?
