ok, i think i figured it out

r4# locate httpd.conf /usr/home/justin/apache/apache_1.3.26/conf/httpd.conf-dist
/usr/home/justin/apache/apache_1.3.26/conf/httpd.conf-dist-nw
/usr/home/justin/apache/apache_1.3.26/conf/httpd.conf-dist-win
/usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf
/usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf-mike
/usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf-newdist
/usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf.bak
/usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf.default
/usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf.old
/usr/local/apache_1.3.26/conf/httpd.conf-dist
/usr/local/apache_1.3.26/conf/httpd.conf-dist-nw
/usr/local/apache_1.3.26/conf/httpd.conf-dist-win
/usr/local/httpd.conf

is there a way to tell which one it is using, i tried editing the /usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf file and it still dindt work, how do i tell which file httpd is using when it loads?

thanks a bundle

Hmm, I am not sure how you can tell. Did you try editing the one located here:

/usr/local/httpd.conf

or here:

/usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf

On my boxes I always edit the httpd.conf file located here:

/etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf

And to think, i thoguht i had solved my problem:::

NameVirtualHost 63.217.142.155

<VirtualHost 63.217.142.155>
ServerAdmin webmaster@willysbirthday.com
DocumentRoot /usr/local/apache/www/willysbirthday.com
ServerName WillysBirthday.com
ErrorLog logs/willysbirthday.com-error_log
CustomLog logs/willysbirthday.com-access_log combined
</VirtualHost>

<VirtualHost 63.217.142.155>
ServerAdmin jstahler@wam.umd.edu
DocumentRoot /usr/local/apache/www/softball.com
ServerName softball.brahh.com
ErrorLog logs/softball.com-error_log
CustomLog logs/softball.com-access_log combined
</VirtualHost>

ANND

<VirtualHost 63.217.142.162>
ServerAdmin webmaster@brahh.com
DocumentRoot /usr/local/apache/www/softball.com
ServerName sball.brahh.com
ErrorLog logs/brahhs.com-error_log
CustomLog logs/brahhs.com-access_log combined
</VirtualHost>

---------------------------------------------------------------
softball and sball are taking me to the mystery "test" page yet again

however, when i modify the willysbirthday page, the page goes to the correct spot, even when i put it to softball.com

i don't even know what to do with this, i tried switching the order of the.155 hosts, and when i did this and got things to work sparcely, but i cant see why that should make a differencE!!
