finding out hosting company details

Hi peeps,

I have a URL for a friends website...

I wanted to know who hosted it for him....I cannot get hold of him until after the new year...

Is there any way I can find out the hosting company etc etc?

Please please help

do a whois lookup on his domain
http://www.geektools.com/whois.php

The name servers listed on the results will tell you who is hosting it.
"There's no place like 127.0.0.1 except for ::1."

I cannot find the hosting company...hmmmm i dont know what Im doing wrong, Im entering the key followed by the URL in the whois box...

Whois the domain name and get the DNS info. You can also whois the IP address.

It's not always that can tell the name of the company judging by the nameservers in the whois.

doing the same query at domaintool.com will net you a best guess of who owns the ip space where the server is located. that ought to be the hosting company.
