How does dot.tk make their money if they give away free domains and you can turn off the ads?

what it is is a new domain that is free it really is really good you are allowed to register up to 3 free domains and as many paid domains as you like (mine are http://www.andyandy.tk http://www.weasle.tk and http://www.polabear.tk) it is great when you are using a free hosting like geocities. it really is really good have a look

My undertstanding is that they mainly want to draw attention to the actual island that the .tk extention refers to.

They also get a lot of paying customers too and not everyone turns their advertising off

with the question how do they make thir money thats the thing thir not trying to make money all that their trying to do is promote the contry Tokelau.
It is the primary goal of Dot TK and the Tokelau Internet Project to bring advanced communications, education and medical care to Tokelau.

Of course they are trying to make money. Money is what allows them to improve their internet connection, medical aid & education etc.

They have reserved major brand name domains and sell them. They also hope that people will use their free domain names, get 'em listed in the search engines and then buy them down the road.

They also hope to get some publicity out of offering free TLD names that just might result in donations.
