If the SITE command is not supported on most FTP servers, WHY OH WHY DO ALL THE FTP CLIENTS USE "SITE CHMOD"? 
Sorry about the caps, just a mess after fighting with various FTP servers and clients most of the day. And all I wanted to do was a simple CHMOD (not using Linux/Unix so no command-line CHMOD)...
